The fate of 80 candidates standing on eight seats in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections will be decided today. More than 1.44 crore voters will exercise their franchise in the first phase. The Election Commission has categorized 3571 polling booths as sensitive out of 14845 polling places. Helicopters and air ambulances have been arranged for emergencies. Polling parties have reached the polling place.

On Thursday, State Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa informed about the preparations for the first phase of voting in the state. On Friday, voting will be held in Saharanpur, Kairana, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, Nagina (SC), Moradabad, Rampur and Pilibhit from 7 am to 6 pm. All voters standing in line will be allowed to cast their votes at 6 pm.

In the first phase, the maximum number of voters are in Moradabad and the least in Nagina Lok Sabha constituency. The maximum number of candidates is 14 in Kairana and the least are 6 each in Nagina and Rampur. Out of total 80 candidates, 7 are women candidates. Of the total voters, there are more than 7.65 crore male voters and about 6.74 crore female voters. 749 third genders will also exercise their franchise.

Live webcasting of more than 7500 polling booths

Paramilitary forces will be deployed to protect the strong room. The location of the helicopter will be in Moradabad on 18-19 April and the location of the air ambulance will be in Bareilly on 19 April. Arrangements for live webcasting have been made at 50 percent polling places, which will be supervised at the level of District Election Officer, Chief Electoral Officer and Election Commission of India. Apart from this, videography will be done at 1510 polling booths.

During the polling period, BLOs have been instructed to remain present at the helpdesk with the Alphabetical Locator Voter List. They will help the voters. Voting percentage information will be updated to the media every two hours. If the EVM is faulty then it will not take more than half an hour to restart the voting.
