‘Maaran’ Film Review: Perhaps ‘Dhanush’ does such a film for money.

Film Review of ‘Maaran’: Good and talented actors whose every film has a different appeal in itself, there is innovation in its story, its direction is amazing, suddenly you see them doing a very weak, tired, logicless film, So this question arises in the mind that maybe the money would be getting good for this film, that’s why he must have done this film. If you talk to any hero or heroine in the Hindi film industry, you will come to know that 99% of them have done such a film at one time or the other in their career, whose success they have full doubts about, but in order to get good money, they Let’s do the film.

The southern film industry is no exception to this and the latest proof of this is the Tamil action thriller film “Maaran” released on Disney+ Hotstar starring Bow has. A tired story, a very tired screenplay and a very useless direction. It takes guts to praise Maran by speaking well of him.

This film made on the background of journalism always looks confused. Does he want to use Dhanush’s acting or does he want to take advantage of Dhanush’s commercial star image or a mix of both? Some goons kill Dhanush’s true journalist father for publishing a report. While giving birth to Dhanush’s sister, his mother also passes away. Dhanush grows up with his maternal uncle and younger sister and gets a job in a news portal thanks to a tweet.

Making new revelations one after the other, Dhanush is included in the best young journalists of the country. After his report on fake EVMs, politician Pazhani becomes his enemy. Dhanush is also attacked. Suddenly his sister gets kidnapped and Dhanush searches for her with the help of the police. After many days of hard work, they reach the goon of Pazhani who kidnapped Dhanush’s sister. After the beating, that goon brings such a truth in front of Dhanush, on hearing which Dhanush sees the side effects of his journalism which always supports the truth. In the end Pazhani is sent to police custody along with all his goons and chamchas, Dhanush’s sister returns to him.

The story is written by the duo of Sharfu and Suhas who had previously written two Malayalam films – Varthan and Virus and both were well received. Direction Karthik worked on the screenplay with the pair. Story and screenplay both turned out to be poor. Even after seeing his father die at the hands of goons, Dhanush chooses journalism as his career like his father and thousands of people like his positive story with just one tweet and he gets a job. As soon as he enters the job, he also gets a girl.

Dhanush’s journey from childhood to youth has disappeared from the film and this transition remains incomplete, no flashback is shown. Dhanush only gives breaking news, only big news, the rest of the time he keeps dancing after drinking alcohol. The effect of the murder of his father is not visible in his mind. The character of Dhanush’s sister is very strange. It takes half the film to understand what she does while she buys a nice bike for her brother. Pazhani’s goon’s sister commits suicide because of a report by Dhanush and that goon kidnaps Dhanush’s sister to avenge this. There are many such big pits which have not even been tried to be filled in the story.

Dhanush has not left any impact in this film. For the first time, Dhanush has appeared on the screen in the role of a journalist, but in any way the journalist is not visible. His popularity as a journalist has been shown, the director has not found it necessary to explain why and how. He is afraid of fire just like Nana Patekar was in the film Parinda. The dialogues between his partner Tara (Malavika Mohanan) and Dhanush’s sister Shweta (Smriti Venkat) in the TV channel are well made, a bit modern and also seem genuine.

An attempt has been made to create humor through the dialogue between Dhanush and Malvika, in which the director has failed. Malvika’s role gets lost in the middle, and there is no need to explain what happens to her. The character of Pazhani (Samuthirakani) is also confused. He is a former minister, but sometimes he is shown to be a powerful minister and sometimes he is scared. The way Dhanush gets her caught in the climax is very funny.

This is the second film of Vivekananda Santosham, the cinematographer of the famous film like Carbon and he has not added anything to the film. Editor Prasanna GK also has the same story. Even after doing many successful films, the final edit of Maran film seems long and boring. Every scene is sequential, the use of flashback is very less and the story never shows any kind of thrill as the edit seems to be added in a very simple way according to the story of the film.

The old films of director Karthik Naren had earned a lot of fame and money at the box office and hence he was signed as the director of this film, but Karthik has not done any blast in this film. Disappointment came from this film because neither it could show journalism properly nor it had the right amount of masala like commercial films. GV Prakash’s music was fine. The title track “Polada Ulagam” was sung by Dhanush and people liked it a lot. Apart from this, there was nothing in Maaran that would give it any chance to become a hit compared to any other film. It will be better for Dhanush’s fans if they don’t watch this film.
