When Surendra Pal came to know that the casting of Mahabharata was taking place, he reached there and the casting director Goofy Paintal told that he was being given the role of Dronacharya in Mahabharata. On this Surendra Pal said, ‘I have come here to become a hero, I am handsome. I thought my career was over before it started. Came to become a hero and got the role of an old man. Then I was leaving after rejecting the role.

Talking further about this, Surendra Pal said, ‘When I rejected the role of Dronacharya and was about to leave, BR Chopra called me. So he said that I have found my Dronacharya. Then I said that I cannot play the role of an old man. I have come to become a hero, this will end my career.

‘On this BR Chopra said,’ What did you say? Dronacharya was an old man? Who was an army general. He could have made 10 more Arjuns and 10 Duryodhanas. BR Chopra kept shouting at me and finally I started crying after listening to his words. He prepared me for this role by explaining the importance of Guru Dronacharya and I did it again. Let us tell you that Surendra Pal played the role of Tamraj Kilvish in Shaktimaan which became quite popular.
