In Kanpur, four women, including two sisters-in-law and their sister-in-law, left this world together at Hathipur turn in Maharajpur on Tuesday evening while holding each other’s hand and trying to quickly cross the Kanpur-Prayraj Highway. The five women, including their sister-in-law and sister-in-law, who were crossing the road, would not have expected that the driver of the speeding car would not apply brakes even after they crossed the road together. The family members of Sarita, a resident of Hathipur, among those who died, said that she often used to say that the drivers themselves slow down the speed when they see more people. Perhaps this is the reason why they all got hit by a car while trying to cross the road together holding each other’s hand.
Rajendra Shukla, an eyewitness to the accident, said that due to the fast passing vehicles, all the women stood on the roadside for some time. When the traffic subsided, everyone tried to cross the road together. After crossing Kanpur-Fatehpur lane, as soon as they took two steps on Fatehpur-Kanpur lane, a speeding Eeco car coming from Fatehpur side hit everyone. Due to the collision, Poonam’s daughter Divya, sister-in-law and Jyoti Pandey jumped away and fell away while Poonam and Sarita got hit by the wheel of the car. Rajendra said that if the women had been at the front, perhaps lives would have been saved.
