Maharashtra Corona Cases: In the last 24 hours in Maharashtra, 483 new cases of corona have been reported and 317 people have been cured. The news of the death of 3 people due to Corona has also come to the fore. Currently the active case number in Maharashtra is 2506. Once again an increase in the cases of corona is being seen in the country. In Maharashtra, the worst affected state in India, cases doubled overnight since Monday.
Why are cases rising?
Omicron sub-variant XBB.1.16 has led to a spurt in new Covid cases. Amid rising cases of corona in Maharashtra, the health officials of Maharashtra have appealed to the public to take precautionary measures. 17.5 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been given across Maharashtra. However, less than 10 million people have taken booster shots so far. According to The Indian Express, Dr Sachin Desai told Maharashtra Immunization Officer that the authorities have repeatedly urged people of different age groups to complete the vaccination programme.
Appeal to take booster dose of vaccine
Only 11 per cent of the target population of 4.7 crore in the 18-59 age group have taken a preventive dose, while 30 per cent of the target population of 1.01 crore in the 60-year and above age group have received booster shots. Currently, there are more than one lakh doses of Covaxin vaccine available in government centres. The production of the Covishield vaccine was stopped by the Serum Institute of India due to lack of demand. State health officials said they were awaiting guidance from the Center regarding the administration of Corbevax, which has been approved as a booster dose for adults who have been vaccinated with Covaxin or Covishield vaccine.
