Makar Sankranti 2023: The festival of Makar Sankranti is being celebrated across the country today. This festival is one of the main festivals of Hindus. It has different names in different states. Where it is called Sankranti in Madhya Pradesh, it is called Uttarayan in Gujarat and Pongal in South India. On this day, different dishes are also prepared at different places. Khichdi is made on this day in Bihar. According to the Panchang, this year the Sun will leave Sagittarius and enter Capricorn on the night of Saturday, January 14 at 08:21 minutes. In the scriptures, the auspicious time of donation and bath is considered in Udaya Tithi. That’s why according to Udaya Tithi, the festival of Makar Sankranti will be celebrated on Sunday, January 15. The auspicious time for charity, virtue and bath will also be on 15th January only.
It is a religious belief that taking a bath in the river Ganga on this day frees one from all sins. A mythological story is also prevalent about this, regarding which people do charity and charity after bathing in the Ganges. Kite flying is also done on the day of Makar Sankranti. On the occasion of this festival, faith rises on many ghats on the banks of river Ganga, but bathing at Har Ki Pauri is considered to be of special importance. A fair is organized here on the occasion of Sankranti and it is also said that by taking a dip in the Ganges one gets freedom from all sins.
