“Both sides agree to continue to firmly support each other to safeguard their core interests,” a joint statement issued after Muizzu’s talks with top Chinese leaders said.

Respects and explores the path for development suited to the national circumstances of the Maldives. At the same time, it opposes external interference in the internal affairs of the Maldives.”

According to the joint statement, Muizzu agreed to support Chinese President Xi Jinping’s principled Global Security Initiative (GSI). “Both sides agreed to explore ways of implementing the GSI in efforts to enhance law enforcement, enhance mutual cooperation, jointly address traditional and non-traditional security challenges, and contribute to peace,” it said. ”

Maldives will not establish relations with Taiwan
It said that Maldives opposes every statement or action that undermines China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Besides, he also opposes separatist activities related to Taiwan. It will not establish any kind of official relations with Taiwan.
