The first high-speed goods train is being prepared for the transportation of automobiles in the North Eastern Railway. The coaches of the old trains have been upgraded and converted into high speed goods wagons. This goods train will run at a speed of 110 kmph. The special thing is that it has the facility of unloading vehicles directly on the platform.

The Railway Board has set a target for the North Eastern Railway to convert 100 old wagons into goods high speed vehicles. The Railway Administration has allotted 60 vehicles to be upgraded at Gorakhpur Mechanical Workshop and 40 at Izzatnagar Workshop. The first wagon has been produced at the Mechanical Workshop.

The upgraded vehicle has many advantages. For example, ramps and sliding doors have been installed in it, so that vehicles can be easily landed on the platform itself. Till now there was only one exit door. Apart from this, a window has also been made in the vehicle, due to which there will be enough light.

The upgraded wagons will be able to carry double the freight. Apart from automobiles, other goods can also be transported.

Chief Public Relations Officer, North Eastern Railway, Pankaj Kumar Singh said that old unusable ICF coaches are being converted into NMG wagons by the Railways for transportation of automobiles.
