After the violence that happened a few months ago, now once again chaos has started in some areas of Manipur, houses of many leaders have been attacked and arson is also taking place. Meanwhile, today we will tell you the complete history of Manipur, the tribes living here and the political parties. In this one article you can understand the whole of Manipur very well.

History of Manipur
Manipur is one of those states of the country which are very beautiful. This state is situated between hill valleys. The total population of Manipur is about 35 lakhs. Now first of all let us know what has been the history of Manipur. The old name of Manipur was Kanglaipath, after which the Meitai king changed it and named the state Manipur. Manipur is like a bowl, that is, there are hills all around and Imphal Valley in the middle. Tribes live in the mountains spread all around. That is, people of different tribes live here, while below in the valley, people of other community Maitai live. The third community here is Naga, who live only in the hilly areas.

era of meitai king
Now it is important to tell you about that story when the very existence of Manipur was in danger. In 1819, Burma captured Manipur, after which the Meitai king appealed to the British for help. The British defeat the Burmese Kingdom in 1826 and Manipur becomes a protectorate state. That means its command rests with the British government. The British used the divide and rule formula during their rule here.

The British worked to settle the Kuki community on the hills all around. Whereas Maitai were already settled in the valley. The British gave the message to everyone that both the communities were completely different. That is why Maitai will always live in the valley and Kuki will live in the hills. It is said that the seeds of controversy were sown in Manipur during this period.

When Manipur joined India
After independence, Manipur became a part of India in 1949, even before that in 1947, Manipur had declared itself a democratic state and had also made its own constitution. However, after joining India, it became a Union Territory. After this, Manipur got the status of a full state in 1972.

What is the root of the whole controversy?
Now that Manipur violence is being talked about, it is important to go to the root of this entire dispute. Actually this entire dispute is related to land and Manipuri culture. Due to the loss of Scheduled Tribe status, people of Meitai community cannot acquire land around the valley. In such a situation, he began to fear that one day he would be completely confined to a small space. After this, from 2001, Meitai people started demanding Scheduled Tribe status. Due to which they can also take land anywhere and maintain their existence in the entire state.

Demand for inner line permit also
The Meitai community has also been continuously demanding the Inner Line Permit. So that it can be known who is Manipuri and who is coming from outside and settling here. He says that people from other communities are occupying the entire area and new villages are being established. For this, the cutoff date should be 1951, that is, people living in Manipur after 1951 will not be called Manipuri. The Meitei community says that NRC should be implemented from 1951 itself.

A bill regarding this Inner Line Permit was brought in 2015, as soon as this bill was presented in the Assembly, violent demonstrations started in Chura Chandpur, a Kuki dominated area. Kuki people say that Maitai always consider us as outsiders. Maitai wants to oust him from the state. With this, the Kuki community has been strengthening its stance on statehood. This is the reason why Kuki is continuously demanding to include himself in the 6th schedule.

These places share the border of Manipur
If we talk about the borders of Manipur, on one side is Nagaland, while on the other side is Myanmar. There are also states like Meghalaya and Assam in the West. There is also connectivity with Mizoram in its south. The border with Myanmar is also considered a reason for the spread of violence and weapons in Manipur.

this is the food
Now if we talk about the food of the people of Manipur, the people here do not eat very spicy food. Ginger, garlic and chilli are used to flavor all types of food here. Here people like to eat Eromba i.e. boiled fishes. At the same time, dishes like Shingju Shaak, Moroccan Metpa, Eromba, Thabal and Pakhawaj, Fish Sambal are available in abundance.

political stake
Politics in Manipur mostly revolves around the Meitai community living in Imphal Valley. Of the total 60 MLAs, about 40 come from the Meitai community, while the remaining 20 belong to the Kuki and Naga communities. That means representation is in the hands of Meitai people. The Chief Minister also becomes a Maitai every time. This is the reason why the Kuki community is demanding its own autonomy.
