Manoj lived in chawl
Manoj had told that when he came to Mumbai, he lived in a chawl with two people. Recalling that time, the actor had said, “I was busy all day. Lived in a chawl with two people, when I came back after six months, I saw at least 10 people sleeping there. One of them was Tigmanshu Dhulia. Victor (Vijay Krishna Acharya), who made Dhoom, also spent most of his time there.”
Manoj wanted to commit suicide due to rejection
Manoj Bajpayee also had to face many rejections. He was even rejected from NSD, after which he wanted to commit suicide. He had revealed in an interview with ETimes, “The hardest was when I was not selected for NSD. I had dreamed of this since I was in seventh class. I was heartbroken. I never thought of committing suicide. I never came as close to it as I did then. My friends were scared and five of them would sleep next to me and never leave me alone.”

Finally Manoj’s luck changed and he made his debut with a one-minute role in ‘Drohkaal’ and a small role of a dacoit in Shekhar Kapur’s ‘Bandit Queen’ in 1994. After this, Manoj kept getting small roles but he wanted name fame in Bollywood. He then played the role of gangster Bhiku Mhatre in Ram Gopal Varma’s 1998 crime drama ‘Satya’. After this film Manoj never looked back. He acted in many films like Gangs of Wasseypur, Aligarh, for which he also won the National Award for Best Actor.
