The accused of killing his wife by pushing her off the roof for dowry in Agra was arrested by the police from the Naval Base in Kochi, Ernakulam, Kerala on Wednesday. He was brought to Agra by plane on transit remand and presented in the court on Thursday.
Pankaj, who lives in Murali Vihar in Dauretha, Shahganj, is a sailor. He got married in February 2023. Seven months later, on 7 September 2023, the wife’s brother filed a dowry murder case against his brother-in-law. According to the plaintiff, his sister was murdered by pushing her off the roof in greed for dowry.
After the incident, Pankaj went to Kerala. He was posted at Kochi Naval Base there. The victim complained to the Police Commissioner for the arrest of Pankaj who was absconding for eight months. After this, on Tuesday, Shahganj police reached Kerala’s Ernakulam city for the arrest. There, with the help of Harbor Police, the accused was arrested from Kochi Naval Base. Transit remand was obtained from the Judicial Magistrate Court in Kochi. The accused was brought to Agra via Delhi by flight from Kochi.
Arrest could be made after nine months
The victims kept wandering from door to door for the arrest of the accused sailor. The police remained careless. Even after getting the location, the police did not make any efforts to arrest him. The arrest could be made only after a complaint was made to the higher authorities nine months after the case was registered.
