82 years ago on this day, revolutionary students had come out to hoist the flag on the Secretariat of Patna. On the orders of the then District Magistrate WG Arthur, the police had fired several bullets. About 13 to 14 rounds of bullets were fired. Seven revolutionary students Umakant Prasad Singh, Ramanand Singh, Satish Prasad Jha, Jagpati Kumar, Devipad Chaudhary, Rajendra Singh and Ram Govind Singh moved forward with the flag one by one and were martyred by the bullets of the British. It is said that when 14-year-old Devipad Chaudhary was moving towards the Secretariat with his six companions, the police tried to stop him. But, Devipad was moving forward holding the tricolor when the police shot him. Seeing Devipad falling, Ramgovind Singh moved forward and took the tricolor in his hand. But, the police shot him too. Ramanand Sinha held the tricolor and did not let it fall. The police also shot Ramanand. Seeing Ramanand falling, Saran Rajendra Singh held the tricolor. Rajendra Singh moved forward but he too was shot. Seeing the tricolour falling from Rajendra Singh’s hands, Jagpati Kumar took hold of it. The British shot Jagpati Kumar in the hand, the second bullet hit his chest and the third bullet hit his thigh, but still the tricolour did not bow down. After this, Satish Prasad Jha was also shot while trying to hoist it. Umakant Singh handed over the flag and started running ahead. The cruel police personnel were firing bullets. Umakant was also shot but he succeeded in hoisting the tricolour on the dome of the secretariat. Independence
