Maruti Suzuki working on new hybrids and electric cars for India

Maruti Suzuki’s Strategy for Electric and Hybrid Cars: Maruti Suzuki seems to be adopting both EVs and hybrids for its future product strategy. India’s largest carmaker is currently working on a number of products across multiple price segments. This includes affordable EVs and hybrid models. Currently, Maruti Suzuki has two fully strong hybrid cars in its current portfolio, but this will increase in the next few years, along with the company adding to its EV range. The first product to come under this strategy of the company will be an EV, with the EVX electric SUV scheduled to be launched in India early next year. This will be Maruti’s first EV for the Indian market and will make its place in the competitive compact SUV space.

The company is also working on hybrid cars

Apart from this, the company will also launch a new hybrid SUV which is a three-row version of the Grand Vitara, which will also get a strong hybrid powertrain. Not only in the SUV segment, but the company is planning to bring more hybrid cars in the lower price band, which will make them more affordable and efficient. In the future, strong hybrids will have a large share in sales for Maruti Suzuki, so more products based on this will come.

Many cars will come by 2030

By 2030, Maruti Suzuki may have a product range that will be 25 per cent hybrid and 15 per cent EV. So, for our market, the company may plan more affordable vehicles apart from the eVX. This could also include the smaller eWX electric hatchback, which if introduced, could be the company’s most affordable electric hatchback. The eWX EV comes with a range of 230 km and will compete with cars like the Tata Tiago EV. Apart from SUV and hatchback body styles, it may also bring an electric MPV to the market like the Ertiga. So, the next few years are going to be very interesting for the company with a range of new products from Maruti Suzuki.
