A fire broke out in an illegal firecracker manufacturing factory in North Delhi’s Burari area on Sunday evening, creating chaos in the area. Four people present in the factory got burnt in the accident. A fireman was also injured during the rescue operation. All the injured were admitted to a nearby hospital, from where one seriously injured person was referred to Lok Nayak Hospital. The injured have been identified as Himanshu (22), Anand (24), Ravi Prakash (22) and Vijay Pandey (22). Meanwhile, the injured fireman has been identified as Devendra Sandhu. His hand is injured. He was given first aid by the personnel present in the CATS ambulance present at the spot.

According to the police officer, Himanshu has suffered 100 percent burns in the incident. Apart from this, Anand and Ravi suffered 25 percent burns and Vijay Pandey suffered 40 percent burns. Police have registered a case in this regard and are investigating. Delhi Fire Service Director Atul Garg said that at around 4.24 pm on Sunday evening, information was received about a fire in a firecracker factory in Pradhan Enclave of Burari. As soon as the information was received, five fire tenders were sent to the spot. The fire brigade personnel who reached the spot came to know that the fire had started on the ground floor of a one-storey factory built about five hundred yards away.
Illegal firecracker making work was going on on the ground floor. It is being told that the four injured people were present in the factory at the time of the incident. Police reached the spot and admitted all the injured to the hospital in Burari with the help of CATS ambulance. Police officer said that Himanshu’s condition remains critical. He has been sent to Lok Nayak Hospital. After the fire was brought under control in about an hour, the police called the crime and forensic team to the spot. The team has collected evidence from there. After that the police have registered a case in this regard.
There was no fire NOC
Investigation revealed that an illegal factory for making firecrackers was running on the ground floor. Whereas people were living on the upper floors. It is suspected that the firecracker caught fire after coming in contact with a spark. Initial investigation revealed that the factory was running without NOC from the fire department. No fire prevention measures were taken in the factory. The factory owner is absconding since the incident. Police are raiding possible hideouts in search of him.
Ban on firecrackers on paper
There is a complete ban on making and burning firecrackers in the capital Delhi. Despite this, firecrackers are being prepared indiscriminately in the factory. It is being told that the role of local police in this case is suspicious. The Supreme Court and NGT are continuously giving strict instructions regarding the increasing pollution in Delhi. But the instructions are being followed only on paper.
