got married at the age of 18
Meena Kumari married Kamal Amrohi. Meena was just 18 years old at that time and Kamal was 34 years old. They secretly married on 14 February 1952. According to Bollywood Weddings, Kamal and Meena’s marriage was not happy. Kamal was a very stubborn person and he used to put restrictions on Meena. He used to ask Meena to come home at 6.30. No one was allowed to enter her makeup room. She used to travel only in the car which Kamal had given her. Meena also faced domestic violence on the alleged day.
The actress had gone into depression
Due to many restrictions, Meena became a victim of depression. Fed up, she divorced Kamal in 1964. But by then Meena had become very depressed. According to reports, the doctor had advised her to drink a little alcohol to get a good sleep, but it became Meena’s addiction and she started drinking too much. In 1968, Meena’s condition worsened. After this, she was sent to good hospitals in London and Switzerland for treatment. The doctors had advised her not to work. But after coming to India, she started working.
After this, Meena and Kamal worked together in the film Pakeezah. This film is counted among the cult classic films. But soon after this film, Meena’s health deteriorated again and she died on 31 March 1972 at the age of 38.
