Meta fined by EU: The European Union has imposed a fine of Rs 10,765 crore on Facebook. The reason for this is sending people’s data to the US. Actually, Meta was transferring the data of Instagram and Facebook users to the US. Due to this EU has imposed this fine on Meta. This is the biggest fine ever imposed on Facebook. This fine has been imposed by the European Union’s privacy regulators. The fine imposed by the EU is more than the $821.20 million imposed on Amazon last year.
The EU said that Meta was asked to stop the data transfer of users but the company failed in this too. Along with the fine, the EU has given Meta five months to suspend sending users’ personal data to the US and six months to stop data transfers. On this EU decision, Meta said that it will appeal against the Irish DPC data transfer ruling, which also includes unfair and unnecessary fines. Along with this, Meta also said that they will demand a stay on the orders through the courts. The company said that this decision is one-sided and it is a matter of concern for other companies as well.
Let me tell you, in January this year too, Meta’s instant messaging platform WhatsApp was fined 5.5 million euros (about Rs 47.8 crore) by the Irish regulator for violating data protection rules of the EU Union.
Meta started paid verification service
Meta has started a paid verification service under the supervision of Twitter. Under this, users can get blue ticks by paying money on Instagram and Facebook. People will have to pay Rs 1,099 on the web and Rs 1,450 on Android and iOS.
