Minister Vijay Chaudhary Center Should Approve Flood Protection Scheme Bihar Including Kosi Mechi Link Project – Amar Ujala Hindi News Live

The Water Resources Minister said that the Kosi-Mechi link project is important from the point of view of flood management as well as irrigation. The working DPR of its first phase has been submitted by the Bihar government with all the necessary data and facts for approval. After its commencement, action will be taken to approve the DPR of the second phase. He said that at least in the first phase, where there is no need for land acquisition and there is a plan to enhance the old system, the work should be approved and started on priority. Also, Kosi-Mechi Link Project should be financed on the lines of Ken-Betwa Link Project and the Central Government should immediately approve it in the ratio of 90:10.

Vijay Kumar Choudhary also demanded to finalize the National Silt Management Policy and make it effective immediately. He said that due to continuous accumulation of silt in the rivers of Bihar, the flow of the rivers is being affected and their water holding capacity is also decreasing. The suggestions of Bihar government should be included in the proposed policy for silt management. Besides, the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) must also consult the concerned states for dredging work.
