Indian Government to Block 18 Lakh Sim Cards: In view of the increasing cyber crime, the central government has prepared a new 15-day roadmap. Under this, action will be taken against the people involved in fraud. Also their SIM and devices will be blocked. The government is taking strict steps against cyber criminals, under which 18 lakh SIMs and mobile connections will be closed, this will be the first time in history that the government will close 18 lakh SIMs at one go. On May 9, the Department of Telecommunications had ordered telecom companies like Airtel, VI and Jio to shut down 28220 mobile bands, and was also instructed to reverify 20 lakh connections.
Steps to control online fraud
The Central Government has taken these steps to control cyber crime and online fraud, under this, both government and private agencies will jointly identify those doing online fraud and action will be taken against them, if the report is to be believed then the telecom company will be punished within 15 days. Fake SIM connections will have to be closed by doing reverification.
According to the data of National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP), 694,000 financial fraud complaints were registered in 2023 in which there was a loss of about Rs 10,319 crore.
Fraud happening in different region using SIM of different region
If we look at the report, it has been found that cyber fraud is being done in different regions using SIMs from different regions. For example, SIMs from Assam and Orissa are used in Delhi-NCR. Last year, 37,000 SIM cards and 17 million mobile connections involved in cyber fraud were blocked and along with this, 1,86,000 handsets were blocked.
The government has prepared an action plan to take action against people involved in cyber crime, digital fraud and such activities. Along with blocking the SIM cards and devices of such people, legal action will also be taken against them.
