Indian Railways: Indian Railways has given a big good news to the retired employees. In fact, to overcome the shortage of railway employees, Railways has once again decided to give jobs to retired employees below 65 years of age on contract basis.
Railway Board has started recruitment for 25,000 posts in various sectors. This includes a new formula to temporarily fill the vacancies by re-appointing retired railway employees. Under this, retired employees below 65 years of age can apply for jobs ranging from supervisors to track men.
Medical fitness of last 5 years will be reviewed
The appointments made by the Railways will last for two years, which can be extended later. General Managers of all Zonal Railways have been authorized to appoint these retired employees on the basis of criteria such as medical fitness and performance rating of the last five years.
Benefits of increment-DA and HRA will not be available
According to the order, applicants should have good grading in the confidential reports of the last five years before retirement and there should not be any case of vigilance and departmental action against them. During this period of employment, each employee will be given a fixed salary equal to his/her last salary, in which his/her basic pension will be reduced. Apart from this, they will not be given any DA-HRA and increment during the entire period of employment.
This decision has been taken in view of increasing railway accidents and decreasing staff shortage. There are currently 10,000 vacancies in North-Western Railways alone. The objective of this initiative is to reduce the problems faced by the Railways due to shortage of employees. The Railway Board stressed that the step to re-hire retired employees has been taken in response to the immediate need for personnel.
