Lok Sabha elections have arrived in their full glory. Candidates have started contacting people through public meetings and door-to-door visits. During this period, if the candidates do not follow the rules of the Election Commission, cases will be registered against them. For this, police administration teams are keeping an eye on them.
In the last elections also, cases were registered against the candidates and their supporters. Cases of code of conduct violation were registered against 22 leaders and their supporters in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and nine in the 2019 elections, while in the 2022 assembly elections, 140 people violated the orders of the Election Commission.
All the cases are pending in the court. In 2014, seven cases of code of conduct violation were registered in Civil Lines, Bhojpur, Mundhapande and Thakurdwara of Moradabad. In which 22 people were made accused. After registering the case, the police investigated and found charges against only 19 people.
Three names were removed in the discussion. All the accused have got their bail. Of these, 12 people are present at their homes. While 5 people left the district, two people have died. Similarly, the number of people violating the code of conduct decreased in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Only two cases were registered this year. There were nine accused in this. After completing the investigation, the police filed a charge sheet against all the nine people. In this, a case was registered against Congress leader Imran Pratapgarhi and his supporters at Galshaheed police station.
In which it was alleged that he had campaigned after the time period of campaign was over. The case is pending in the court. There was a rapid increase in the number of code of conduct violators in the 2022 assembly elections. In this election, 16 cases were registered against 140 people.
SP Traffic Subhash Chandra Gangwar said that 25 cases were registered in the last two Lok Sabha and one assembly elections. In which 171 accused were made. Of these, chargesheet was filed against 161 people. All have taken bail.
Of these, 140 people are present at their homes. 12 people have gone out. While three people have died. Action for breach of peace has been taken against 128 people present at their homes. 20 people have also been banned.
