The anti-corruption team on Wednesday arrested Inspector Mahesh Pal Singh posted at Agwanpur outpost for taking a bribe of Rs 5,000. SSP Hemraj Meena suspended the inspector. The Inspector’s complaint was made to the team by Nizar Khan, a resident of Vishanpur Bhimather village, for getting a house built on contract.
He said that he had demanded Rs 20,000 for filing a report on the application for arms license. Following the method suggested by the team, Nizar Khan brought five thousand rupees as advance on Wednesday. At that time the Inspector was in the help desk room of Civil Lines police station.
Nizar was called there. As soon as the inspector caught the money, the team caught him. The inspector will be presented in the Anti-Corruption Court in Bareilly on Thursday.
The inspector was making rounds of the post
Inspector Mahesh Pal Singh, who was caught taking a bribe of Rs 5,000 for filing a police report for arms license, was making Nizar Khan visit the police post for three months. The Inspector was entrusted with the investigation of the complaint lodged by two constables in this case earlier by Nizar.
Seeing the situation, Nizar took the help of anti-corruption team. Nizar Khan, a resident of Vishanpur Bhimather village, said that earlier two constables had rejected his arms license application instead of filing a proper report on it.
On this complaint, the investigation of the case was handed over to Inspector Mahesh Pal Singh of Agwanpur outpost. Nizar Khan alleges that after this, when he met the Inspector for the report on arms license, he made him visit the police post for three months.
Later he asked for Rs 20,000 in return for the report. On this, on February 19, Nizar complained about this to Anti-Corruption CO Mohammad Fazil Siddiqui. After this, the CO deployed an anti-corruption team and in a planned manner, arrested the inspector red-handed from Civil Lines police station on Wednesday.
Civil police station in-charge RP Sharma said that a case has been registered against the inspector under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The arrested inspector will be presented in the court located in Bareilly.
Mahesh was recruited as a constable
Inspector Mahesh Pal Singh had joined the police department as a constable. After promotion he became Inspector. He was also posted as a constable in Agwanpur outpost area. Presently he was posted on the post of Inspector in Agwanpur post for one year. Inspector is originally a resident of Palbha village of Sirauli police station area of Bareilly.
