A woman surnamed Yang had gone to this village for some work in February 2023. On February 13, he met an 11-year-old girl. Yang had a 27-year-old son, for whom she was looking for a bride. He liked that 11 year old girl so much that he did not even think that she was still a child and much younger than his son. She decided that she would get the girl married to her son.

Kidnapped the girl
When he proposed marriage to the girl’s parents, they refused. After this the woman thought of another plan. He along with his son planned to kidnap the girl. On February 14, when the girl was alone at home, the mother kidnapped the girl. The woman took him with her to her home in Yunnan but after 6 days she was caught by the police. The son was also arrested after 4 days.
Mother and son jailed
On December 15, the court sentenced the mother and son. The mother was sentenced to 2 years, while the son was sentenced to 7 months. Both of them appealed against this decision of the court, but last month the court upheld the same decision. This matter started gaining momentum on Chinese social media. People have an objection as to why the mother and son have been given so little punishment in this case of child kidnapping. Many people claimed that in ancient times in China, it was a custom that people used to adopt young girls and raise them in their families, so that after growing up, they could get the girls married to their sons. This practice ended in the 1950s.
