What is the claim?
Bahubali leader Mukhtar Ansari reportedly died of cardiac arrest in Uttar Pradesh on March 28. Ansari breathed his last in the hospital where he was brought from Banda jail. Mukhtar Ansariâs family alleges that he was poisoned. Meanwhile, a video surfaced on social media claiming that Mukhtar Ansariâs son and MLA Abbas Ansari has threatened to take ârevengeâ from police officers after his fatherâs death. In the video, Abbas Ansari is seen addressing a crowd, in which he says, âHe has asked former UP Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party (SP) national president Akhilesh Yadav not to transfer anyone for six months.â It is said that first their accounting will be done and only then any transfer certificate will be stamped.â

The Times of India also shared the video on March 4, 2022, with the headline, âTold Akhilesh bhaiya (brother) not to transfer officers for six months as âHisab Kitabâ will come first: Mukhtarâs son Abbas Ansari.â
According to a report in India Today, ADG Law and Order Prashant Kumar confirmed the authenticity of the video and ordered that an FIR be lodged against Ansari for violating the model code of conduct. The report said that voting in Mau Assembly was to be held on March 7, 2022 and the video had surfaced just a few days before the voting.

Additionally, our investigation revealed that Abbas Ansari is in jail and could not attend his fatherâs funeral. His family members had demanded parole for Abbas Ansari. However, he did not get parole. Abbas was transferred to Kasganj district jail last February. He was earlier kept in Chitrakoot jail by ED in a money laundering case.
Decision
An old video of Abbas Ansari, who gave a controversial speech during the UP Assembly elections 2022, has been shared linking it to the death of his father Mukhtar Ansari. In the said video, Abbas is not shown threatening to avenge his fatherâs recent death, rather he was threatening the officials ahead of the 2022 UP elections. Therefore, we consider the viral claim to be misleading.
