Mumbai Traffic Police objection to the meeting of MP Rahul Gandhi in Bandra Kurla Complex Mumbai

Rahul Gandhi: Mahavikas Aghadi is going to start the assembly election campaign from Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) ground on August 20. Keeping in mind the rainy season, the party will set up a waterproof pandal for this. This meeting will be held on the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

It will include Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, along with prominent leaders of the Mahavikas Aghadi parties. Mumbai Traffic Police has sent its objection to the Congress meeting to be held in BKC on August 20 to MMRDA.

There might be a jam

The traffic police has told MMRDA that due to the closure of the Road Over Bridge (ROB) at Sion railway station (this bridge is being demolished to make a new bridge) all the traffic passes through BKC. This is the reason why traffic jams have increased in BKC. Organising the meeting on a weekday will have a huge impact on traffic.

‘It will have an impact on traffic’

An official said, ‘Due to the ongoing metro construction, the traffic in BKC has already become narrower than before. At least 20,000 people are expected to attend the Congress rally, all of whom will reach BKC from Mumbai and nearby districts, due to which the traffic will be badly affected.’ Let us tell you that since the closure of Sion ROB, no rally or meeting of any political party has been organized in BKC till now.

An official further said that “MMRDA does not give permission for any political rally. MMRDA only rents out their plots. For any rally or meeting, the organizers have to take permission from Mumbai Suburban Collector Office, Mumbai Police and Traffic Police. If these agencies do not give the necessary permission, then MMRDA cannot give plots for any rally or meeting.
