The legendary actor we are talking about is none other than Hamid Ali Murad. Murad was born in Rampur in 1911. When he started his film career in the 1940s, he was known simply as Murad. In his film career from 1943 to 1990, Murad played mostly character roles in more than 500 films. He was known for playing the role of legal officers, especially a judge. He repeated this role in more than 300 films.

Murad also played roles like police commissioner or emperor in films. Murad appeared in many hit films like Andaz, Aan, Devdas, Mughal-e-Azam, Yaadon Ki Baaraat, Majboor, Kaliya and Shahenshah. However, Murad always regretted getting supporting actor roles in all his films. He never appeared in a lead role. His last role was in Pyar Ke Naam Qurbaan released in 1990.

Murad was born in Rampur, which was part of British India at that time and was ruled by the Nawab of Rampur. Murad had participated in a procession against the Nawab, which put him and his family in danger. The family fled Rampur in less than 24 hours and reached Mumbai. Here they met Mehboob Khan and he narrated a script to him. Murad wanted to become a writer, but Mehboob requested him to become an actor and thus Murad became a film star. Murad’s son Raza Murad is himself a successful and popular actor, he has worked in more than a hundred films in the last 40 years, Murad died in 1997 at the age of 85.
