Nagaland Assembly Election NDPP-BJP Candidates: For the Nagaland Assembly elections, the ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has announced the names of its candidates for 40 seats, while its ally Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded candidates for 20 seats in the state.

Both the parties (NDPP-BJP) cut the tickets of 16 sitting MLAs. The NDPP and the BJP are contesting the elections to the 60-member assembly in alliance for the second time in a row.

From which seats are veterans contesting?

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio is the NDPP candidate from Northern Angami-II seat, while former chief minister TR Zeliang will contest from Peren seat. At the same time, Minister Kaito Aye will try his luck from Satkha seat and NDPP has given ticket to former Rajya Sabha MP KG Kenye from Chizami seat.

This is how NDPP benefited last year

The NDPP had won 18 seats in the 2018 elections and won three more seats in the subsequent bypolls, taking its strength to 21, but in April last year the Naga People’s Front (NPF) merged 21 MLAs. With his strength doubled to 42.

Whom to trust, whose ticket was cut?

Under the seat-sharing agreement with the BJP, the NDPP has got 40 seats, while the BJP has fielded candidates for 20 seats. NDPP has cut tickets for a total of 15 MLAs. Apart from this, 12 MLAs of NPF who joined NDPP have also been denied tickets.

At the same time, BJP has again expressed confidence in 11 of its 12 MLAs. Deputy Chief Minister Y Patten has been given ticket from Tui seat, while state BJP president Temjen Imna Along has been nominated from Alontki seat. BJP national spokesperson M Kikon will contest from Bhandari seat.

These parties have not yet announced the names of the candidates

Important political parties like Naga People’s Front and Congress have not declared their candidates yet. Janata Dal (U) has announced two candidates. In this, the party’s state president NSN Lotha has been nominated from Tui and general secretary Kitoho S Rotokha from Ghasapani-II. Let us tell you that elections are to be held in Nagaland on February 27 and counting of votes will be done on March 2.
