NEET UG Paper Leak Case: The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar Police has recovered six PDCs (post-dated cheques) suspected to have been issued in favour of mafias who had demanded more than Rs 30 lakh each from candidates seeking access to the alleged leaked question papers ahead of the NEET exam held last month.
Bihar police recovered six post-dated cheques
EOU Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Manavjit Singh Dhillon said on Sunday (June 16), “During the investigation, EOU officials recovered six post-dated cheques issued in favour of offenders who allegedly provided question papers to candidates before the exam.”
He said that the investigators are collecting information about the account holders from the concerned banks. He said that the EOU has so far arrested 13 people in the alleged NEET-UG 2024 paper leak case, including four candidates and their family members. He said that all the accused are from Bihar.
Notice issued to the candidates of UP and Maharashtra
The DIG said that the EOU has also issued notices to nine candidates (seven from Bihar, one each from Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra) to appear for the investigation. The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) 2024 was conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for more than 24 lakh candidates at 4,750 centers in 571 cities.
The result of NEET-UG 2024 was declared on June 4. As soon as the result was declared, there was an uproar and many students alleged discrepancies. The NEET-UG exam is conducted by the NTA for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other related courses in government and private institutions across the country.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has also admitted that there have been irregularities in the NEET exam. He also said that there is a need to improve ATA. He said, “Two types of irregularities have come to the fore in relation to NEET. The initial information was that some students were given grace marks due to less time…secondly, some irregularities have come to light at two places. I assure the students and parents that the government has taken this seriously as well.
