NEET UG Paper Leaked Row: Bihar Police unravels paper leak plot, NTA debars 110 aspirants, read 10 points

NEET UG Paper Leaked Case Latest News: There were many big developments on Sunday (23 June 2024) in the case of alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG examination. On one hand, while the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took over the investigation of this case on Sunday, on the other hand, the Economic Offenses Unit of Bihar Police arrested five more people in the NEET paper leak case. A total of 18 people have been arrested in Bihar so far in the paper leak case.

On the other hand, NTA, which is facing criticism for cancelling and postponing many competitive exams, took action on Sunday against many students who were found to be cheating in the exam. NTA has expelled 63 candidates from across the country from this exam. 17 candidates from Bihar and 30 candidates who appeared for the exam at the centers in Godhra, Gujarat have been expelled from the exam. Such action has been taken against a total of 110 students since the controversy began.

10 important points on NEET controversy

1. On Sunday, due to the grace marks controversy, 1,563 students were asked to take the NEET exam again, out of which only 813 appeared for the exam. These candidates were given grace marks by NTA. These grace marks were given as compensation for the delay in starting the exam at 6 exam centers on May 5. There was a lot of uproar later about this. It was alleged that due to this grace point, the marks increased and six candidates from the same exam center in Haryana got 720 marks. Across the country, 67 students had scored full marks in the NEET-UG exam.

2. The CBI registered an FIR in the NEET-UG case under sections 20-B (criminal conspiracy) and 420 (cheating). The Bihar and Gujarat governments also issued notifications on Sunday transferring the NEET-UG paper leak cases registered by their police to the CBI.

3. Patna police on Sunday evening arrested five people detained from Deoghar in Jharkhand. All the accused are residents of Nalanda. They have been identified as Baldev Kumar, Mukesh Kumar, Panku Kumar, Rajiv Kumar and Paramjit Singh.

4. They have said in the statement that Baldev Kumar, associated with the notorious Sanjeev Kumar alias Lootan Mukhiya gang, received the solved answer sheet of the NEET-UG exam in PDF format on his mobile phone a day before the exam. The police statement claimed that the members of the Mukhiya gang, who are accused of leaking several interstate papers, were also the main source of the leaked answer sheets of NEET- UG.

5. Baldev and his associates printed and distributed answer sheet copies to students gathered at a house in Ram Krishna Nagar, Patna on May 4. Nitish Kumar and Amit Anand, who were arrested earlier, brought the students to the house safely.

6. The police statement said that the Mukhya gang had obtained the NEET-UG question paper from a private school in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand.

7. Investigators have recovered a partially burnt question paper from the house in Patna (where the copies were given to the candidates). They have compared this paper with the reference question paper provided by NTA, which confirms the leak.

8. The NTA has debarred 63 students from the NEET exam for alleged irregularities. On Saturday, it debarred 30 students from Godhra in Gujarat, now 17 more students have been debarred, taking the total number to 110. “Based on the inputs received, 17 candidates who appeared for the exam from centres in Bihar have been debarred from the exam. This takes the total number of candidates debarred this year to 110,” an NTA official said.

9. The Ministry of Education has asked the CBI to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the entire matter of alleged irregularities, which includes conspiracy, fraud, breach of trust, and destruction of evidence on the part of candidates, institutions and middlemen. Apart from this, the CBI will also investigate the role of public servants i.e. employees of government departments in this case.

10. Meanwhile, the high-level panel of the Central Government constituted to suggest examination reforms and review the functioning of the NTA will hold a meeting on Monday (June 24, 2024). It will be chaired by former ISRO chief K Radhakrishnan.
