Nepal student suicide: The father of a Nepali student found dead in a hostel at KIIT (Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology) in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on Tuesday alleged that the private engineering institute misbehaved with the students from Nepal. This statement came when the KIIT administration allegedly expelled some Nepali students from their hostel after the situation in the campus was tense. The deceased student Prakriti Lamsal B.Tech was a third year student.
An official said that the deceased’s father Sunil Lamsal reached Bhubaneswar on the morning of Tuesday (February 18). He said, ‘I have lost my daughter. Many other children are also studying here. The media has revealed that some students were thrown out of the hostel. This is not correct. Such an incident should not happen again. These people go to Nepal and call students to study here. The institute abuses them. No response could be received from the KIIT administration.
Father expects justice
Father Sunil Lamsal expressed confidence in the Odisha government and the police administration, saying that he is expected to get justice in the case of his daughter’s death. He said, ‘I sent my daughter here for higher education. We hope that the government will ensure justice. We trust the government and the police administration.
Doubt of love affair with another student
Nature Lamsal’s body was found from his hostel room on Sunday evening. The institute said, “It is suspected that the deceased had a love affair with another student of KIIT and committed suicide for some reason.” The cousin of the deceased had lodged a complaint with the Infosity Police Station in Bhubaneswar that his sister committed suicide by hanging himself in his hostel room on Sunday. He claimed that a student of the university was blackmailing his sister, due to which he took this step.
