Both these planets are made of huge ice. It turns out that previous photographs of Neptune were darkened to show details of the planet’s atmosphere, altering its original color.

According to Professor Patrick Irwin of Oxford University, who led the research, astronomers have known for a long time that the pictures of the two planets do not look like their actual colors. Apart from this, Dr. Robert Massey, Deputy Director of the Royal Astronomical Society, said that changing the colors of photographs is a normal process in astronomical research.
