Netflix Closes Basic Plan In Canada For New Subscribers, Get To Know About Old Users

Netflix has quietly ended the $9.99 CAD per month basic plan for new customers in Canada, as first reported by Canadian publication BlogTo. This simplifies the streaming company’s offering but leaves a huge gap between the ad-supported plan and the standard plan. The company’s plans still start at $5.99 CAD per month, with the recently introduced MuMe ad-supported plan, which offers most of the Netflix catalog with support for 1080pHD streaming. If users want to get rid of ads and enable downloads, they will need to pay $16.99 CAD per month for the Standard plan.

understand the plan

According to the news, those who are currently paying for the Netflix Basic plan will be able to continue with the plan until the account is cancelled. Real Plan is no longer available to new or returning members. According to TechCrunch news, if you are currently on the Real plan, you can stay on this plan until you change plans or cancel your account.

Canada was the first market in this case

The report said that when Netflix was contacted to understand whether the company is planning to take similar decisions in other markets as well? TechCrunch says that we will update the story if the company comments on the matter. Canada was one of the first markets to get the ad-supported plans last year, followed by other markets such as the US, Australia, Japan and Korea. In April, Netflix extended the benefits of the ad-supported plan to enable Full HD streaming and support for two concurrent streams.

Over 5 million users worldwide

Last month, the company (Netflix) said that it has attracted more than 5 million users worldwide for its ad-based plan. Notably, the streaming giant is yet to launch this tier in many countries. Analysts report that Netflix will earn more than $1.9 billion in advertising revenue next year.
