According to a new Belgian research published recently in the Journal of Medical Microbiology, two bacteria Fusobacterium nucleata and Streptococcus anginosus increase in the body of a person who uses mouthwash daily for 3 months and both these bacteria are linked to cancer. Mouthwash contains alcohol
According to research, some mouthwashes contain alcohol, which destroys the thin layer of the mouth and gives rise to harmful bacteria in the mouth. In fact, in the case of mouthwash, the body breaks down alcohol or ethanol and turns it into a compound called acetaldehyde, which is a carcinogen that causes cancer. It damages DNA and can damage cells, even increase cancer cells.
Mouthwash can dry your mouth
Experts believe that people who use mouthwash too much, their mouth becomes dry and the production of saliva also decreases, which kills harmful bacteria. Not only this, this mouthwash can also trigger inflammation of the mouth. An Australian research in 2009 also found that the amount of alcohol in mouthwash can increase the risk of carcinogenic cancer.
Other risk factors for oral cancer
Regarding what we should avoid more than mouthwash, experts say that chewing tobacco, eating paan, drinking alcohol, all these can increase the risk of cancer and can aggravate the condition by triggering oral cancer further.
