While hearing the Ganga pollution case, NGT has sought a new report from the Secretary of Irrigation Department. Along with this, Additional Chief Secretary Irrigation Department has been directed to be present in the next hearing. At the same time, CW Chairman and National Mission for Clean Ganga Chairman have been made parties and directed to present their side within a week. Along with this, orders have been given to demarcate the flood area along the Ganga as soon as possible.

Justice Prakash Chandra Srivastava, Justice Sudhir Agarwal and Justice Dr. Senthil Vel gave this order. Advocate Vijay Chandra Srivastava and Advocate Sunita Sharma presented the argument. The advocate argued before the court that the High Court has banned any construction within 500 meters of the highest flood point on the banks of the Ganga. Despite this, a large number of constructions have been done on the banks of Ganga-Yamuna all around the city. Due to this, hundreds of houses get submerged in water when the Ganga floods during the rainy season. This poses a threat to life and property.

It was further argued that the water of Ganga has become highly polluted. In Kanpur, water from the comium and sewerage is being dumped into Ganga. In Prayagraj, dirty water is being directly mixed into Ganga from 76 drains. After hearing the arguments, the court ordered to demarcate the flood area as per the prohibited zone, regulatory zone and warning zone. Reports have been sought from the concerned departments. The date for the next hearing has been fixed as 11th July.
