NIA Probe in Mangaluru Auto-Rickshaw Blast Case: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has now taken over the investigation of the Mangaluru Auto-Rickshaw Blast in Mangaluru, Karnataka on November 19. Two people, including the main suspect, were injured in the blast. According to the news agency PTI, the officials gave this information on Thursday (December 1). Taking over the case from NIA means that the investigation of the case will proceed from the terrorist angle. The state police was already investigating in connection with the terrorist activity. The reason for this is a message allegedly going viral, in which it has been said that terrorist threats have been made.

According to the report, a lesser-known small organization named The Islamic Resistance Council (IRC) has claimed responsibility for the blast. It has been allegedly said by the organization that one of the Mujahid brothers, Mohammad Shariq, attempted to attack the Hindutva temple in Kadri. According to the police, the IRC has said in a viral message on social media that such possibilities exist with all military and subversive operations.

Police had registered a case under UAPA

The blast took place in Kankanadi police station area of ​​Mangaluru. Auto driver and suspect Mohammad Shariq was injured. The police had termed the blast as a terrorist incident and registered a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The police held Mohammad Shariq responsible for the blast.

The Karnataka government had written a letter to the Union Home Ministry to get the incident investigated by the NIA. The state government wrote in the letter that since it is a scheduled offense under section 6 of the NIA Act 2008, the matter is being taken up for necessary action.

Karnataka Director General of Police Praveen Sood had informed that the NIA and other central agencies have been working with the state police since day one to solve the case even before formal instructions were received from the Centre. Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Alok Kumar had informed that the police is verifying the veracity of the declared organization and the veracity of the contents of the message.

Objectionable material was found at the suspect’s house

The police had recovered a circuit cooker, wire and battery from the suspect. It was told that the blast was carried out with a cooker bomb. On November 20, the Mysuru City Police searched the house of the suspected accused, from where objectionable material was said to have been recovered.
