Nikhat Zareen Career: Indian boxer Nikhat Zareen has once again become the winner in the Women’s World Boxing Championship. He won this title in the 50kg weight category. This is the second time that Nikhat has become the world champion. Last year also he had won this title. Nikhat has become the second Indian woman boxer after Mary Kom to have won gold in the Women’s World Boxing Championships more than once. By the way, this journey of Nikhat has not been easy. To reach here, he had to compete with the legend of Indian boxing world, Mary Kom.
Got fond of boxing because of father
26-year-old Nikhat, a resident of Nizamabad, Telangana, was fond of boxing since childhood. He got this courage from his father Mohammad Jameel. Jameel was also a boxer. He used to take Nikhat to the boxing academy since childhood, where Nikhat used to punch punches on the opposition boxers in a powerful manner. At the age of 14, Nikhat got her first major success in boxing. He had won the title of Junior Boxing World Champion. Just after this, he did not look back and won titles in many boxing tournaments one after the other.
Boxing Federation’s decision broke the dream
Nikhat won the Strangea Memorial title in 2019 while playing at the senior level. After winning this title, Nikhat started dreaming of going to the World Championship and Tokyo Olympics. However, the biggest obstacle in her dream was her idol MC Mary Kom, who used to box in the same weight category as Nikhat. In August 2019, Indian boxers were undergoing trials to go to the World Championship, but a decision by the Boxing Federation broke Nikhat’s dreams.
The Boxing Federation of India gave Mary Kom a direct entry in the World Championship for the 51 kg category. Means the trials of this category were cancelled. Officials said that Mary Kom does not need to prove anything and she is more likely to win. Here Nikhat demanded a trial from the Boxing Federation but his demand was rejected.
Raised voice when trials for Tokyo Olympics were canceled
Mary Kom could not win gold in the World Championship 2019, although she definitely got bronze. Now it was the turn of Tokyo Olympics 2020. Here too the Boxing Federation dashed Nikhat’s hopes. The Federation announced that the boxers who bring medals in the World Championship will get direct entry in the Tokyo Olympics. That is, the Federation was preparing to send Mary Kom to the Tokyo Olympics as well. Nikhat once again demanded a trial to go to the Olympics but her voice was not heard. Here he raised his voice by writing a letter directly to Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju. In the end, the Boxing Federation had to conduct this trial. Although Nikhat had to face defeat here and she could not go to Tokyo Olympics.
Dreams took shape in the year 2022
In the year 2022, Nikhat’s dream of entering the boxing ring in a big tournament came true. Last year, she achieved success in the trials of the World Championship of Women’s Boxing and then won gold in this championship as well by winning a one-sided match. She was the fifth female boxer of India to do so. After this Nikhat also won gold in Commonwealth Games 2022. Now Nikhat has reached a new level by winning gold in the World Championship 2023 as well. Now his attempt is to win gold in the 2024 Olympics to be held in Paris.
