Nityanand Rai launches Prahari portal to tackle drug abuse in children


Central Govt. Launch Prahari Portal: The Central government has launched a portal to protect children from drug abuse, which will facilitate a strong monitoring system to prevent sale of banned substances around schools and raise awareness among students and teachers.

Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai has launched the Prahari portal with the aim of protecting youth from the problem of drugs and developing a monitoring mechanism to stop the sale of such substances around schools.

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) had organized a national review and consultation meeting in this regard. In this meeting, the works of the joint action plan were discussed which aims to prevent drug abuse and illegal trafficking among children under the vision of a drug-free India.

Named the war on drugs

This joint action plan has been named a war against drugs, which aims to prevent children from taking drugs. This comprehensive plan involves all stakeholders, agencies, duty holders, officials, media and parents so that they can play their role in protecting children from taking drugs.

Emphasis on the importance of safety of youth

Union Minister Nityanand Rai praised the joint action plan initiated by NCPCR and NCB and mentioned the Prime Minister’s commitment towards a drug-free nation. He stressed the importance of protecting the youth as they are the future leaders of developed India and also constitute 59 per cent of India’s total population.

During his address, the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs elaborated on the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards narcotics and terrorism. He also informed about the comprehensive measures being taken to end the drug trade and empower the Border Security Force (BSF), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and Assam Rifles to register FIRs against those involved in drug trafficking.
