NMC’s new guideline regarding medical colleges, this was said about the safety of doctors

After the rape and murder of a junior doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, doctors went on strike across the country. Even today, OPDs remained closed in many states including the country’s capital Delhi. In view of the doctors’ anger, the National Medical Commission has now issued a new advisory for all medical colleges and institutions.

Safe workspaces should be developed

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has said in its new advisory that safe workspaces should be developed for doctors in all medical colleges and institutions. All medical colleges should ensure that resident doctors, along with medical staff, faculty and medical students, can work in a safe environment in the hospital and college campus. Apart from this, instructions have also been given to take adequate steps to increase security in OPD, wards, casualty, hostels and other open areas.

CCTV coverage and action on incidents of violence

Instructions were given in the NMC advisory to increase CCTV coverage in colleges and hospitals. Apart from this, instructions have also been given to take immediate action on any kind of violence. NMC has said in the advisory that if any outsider is seen in any medical college or hospital, then immediately inform the security guards and the college administration. At the same time, the National Medical Commission’s guideline on incidents of violence states that it will be mandatory to send a detailed report of the action taken on the incident of violence to the National Medical Commission (NMC) within 48 hours.

Arrangement of lighting in corridors and campus

The new advisory of the National Medical Commission said that complete arrangements for lighting should be made in the college campus and corridors in the evening. Along with this, the National Medical Commission has also given instructions regarding CCTV surveillance.
