Chhatarpur: Women are prohibited from entering a unique temple located near Barha village in Chhatarpur district. This temple is related to an interesting folk tale, which makes it special. About four hundred years ago, the king of a princely state came to this forest to live a life of peace and solitude. Leaving Rajpath, he started living here.

Story of King’s self-sacrifice
It is said that when the king’s wife came to know about its location, she also reached that place. After reaching there, she insisted on asking the king to return home. Then the king said, I sacrifice only that body for which you have come here. After this the king took Samadhi alive and became absorbed in devotion without his body. Since then this temple was named “Bidehi Baba”, which means “Baba without body”. Along with the Charan Paduka of Bidehi Baba, Bholenath is also present in this temple. Even today, the obstacles of the devotees coming to this temple are removed.

taboo rules for women
However, entry of women is prohibited in this temple. They can have darshan from outside the temple, but cannot try to go inside or touch the Charan Paduka. If they do so, they are said to suffer. All women, married or unmarried, are prohibited from entering the temple.

Bidehi Baba’s relation with Hanumanji
Village elder Ranjol Singh tells that according to his ancestors, Bidehi Baba is considered the brother of Hanuman ji. This recognition gives him special respect among the devotees. Women can have darshan from outside the temple and can also circumambulate.

Every year in the month of Paush, a big fair is organized in this temple, where lakhs of devotees come to visit. On this occasion, Rabi crops are not sown in the fields around the village because vehicles are parked there. These moments are very enjoyable for the village people. Thus, the temple of Bidehi Baba is a unique symbol of reverence and faith, which holds a special place for women and honors their devotion.
