The issue of a Physics question was also raised in the court in which there was confusion between two answers to a question. According to the old NCERT, option two was correct and according to the new one, option four was correct. NTA gave marks to the candidates who chose both the options.

The court said that NTA itself went against its rules and there cannot be two answers to a question. After this, on the court’s direction, a three-member team was formed from IIT Delhi which clarified that only option four is correct. In such a situation, the marks of the candidates who chose option 2 will now be returned and new results will be released.

4 lakh candidates affected

If media reports are to be believed, changing the answer to this question will change the result of about 4 lakh candidates. At the same time, the marks of 44 students who became toppers by choosing option two and getting grace marks will also be deducted, which will lead to a change in the toppers list. In this context, if 44 out of 61 candidates are removed, only 17 students should remain as toppers.

After getting the correct information and reshuffling the ranks, the final results will be released by NTA. This time, after looking at the changed scores of the 1562 students who got grace marks, the changed scores of the students who gave re-exams, the changed scores of these 44 students, a new list will be released. That means the merit will go up and down and the toppers will also change.

The result of some might change

The court has also said that the investigation of the case will continue and if anyone is found guilty later, his result can be cancelled even if counselling has been done or studies have started. The news of paper leak in Patna and Hazaribagh has been confirmed, so there is a strong possibility of change in the results of the candidates of these centres.

What will happen next?

Counselling will start after the new rank list is released and till then the court has given some instructions which will be followed. The court has said that the CBI will continue its investigation until the whole matter is resolved. However, during this time the admission process, counselling will not stop and all the processes will move forward as before.

Guidelines will be issued to prevent such problems in future. Apart from this, the court has also asked NTA to release a new revised merit list.
