Yogi Government Moves Supreme Court: The Yogi government has approached the Supreme Court regarding the issue of civic body elections in UP. Against the decision of the High Court, the UP government (UP Govt) has reached the Supreme Court. The High Court had asked for elections without giving OBC reservation. The High Court had also asked to complete the election process in January itself. The UP government has sought a stay on the order. Hearing in this matter can be held when the Supreme Court opens on January 2.

In fact, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court had said that this time the civic body elections will be held in the state without OBC reservation.

Constitution of 5-member Backward Classes Commission

Yogi Adityanath’s government (Yogi Govt) has constituted a 5-member Backward Classes Commission to provide OBC reservation in UP Civic Body Elections in UP. This commission constituted by the government will report to the government after conducting a survey on the population of backward classes on the basis of standards. Retired Justice Ram Avtar Singh has been appointed as the chairman of the commission. The members of this commission include Mahendra Kumar, Chob Singh Verma, Santosh Vishwakarma and Brajesh Soni.

What did CM Yogi say?

Earlier on December 27, the CM of UP Yogi Adityanath (Yogi Adityanath) had said that the state government will set up a commission in the local body elections and provide reservation facility to other backward class citizens on the basis of triple test. Only after this the general elections to the urban bodies will be conducted.
