Meethe Chawal recipe for Saraswati Puja: The day of Basant Panchami is dedicated to Goddess Saraswati. Mother Saraswati loves yellow color very much. Therefore, on this day, yellow sweet rice is prepared to offer to the Mother Goddess. It is believed that offering yellow food to Mother Goddess makes her happy very quickly. In most of the houses, Goddess Saraswati is worshiped with great pomp on Basant Panchami. Ingredients for making yellow sweet rice
1 cup basmati rice
3/4 cup sugar
2 tbsp desi ghee
5-6 cups water
1 bay leaf
2 cloves
1 tablespoon almonds (chopped)
1 tablespoon cashews (chopped)
4 green cardamoms (ground)
15 leaves saffron
1 pinch yellow color (edible) or turmeric
How to make yellow sweet rice
1. Wash Basmati rice thoroughly and soak it for half an hour.
2. Add saffron and yellow color to a bowl of milk and leave it for some time.
3. Remove the peel of cardamom and keep it in a vessel. And cut cashews and almonds into small pieces.
4. Heat a pan by placing it on the gas. Then add ghee in it and heat it.
5. When the ghee becomes hot, add bay leaves, cloves and cardamom. Now add rice to it and fry it for 2 minutes.
6. After 2 minutes, add water to the rice and leave it to cook.
7. When the rice is cooked well, filter the rice water through a strainer.
8. Now leave the rice in a vessel for some time to cool.
9. On the other hand, put ghee in a pan and heat it.
10. When the ghee becomes hot, add cashew nuts and fry them on low flame till they turn pink.
11. When the cashews are fried well, take them out and separate them.
12. Now put cooked rice in the same pan and also add sugar in it.
13. Now add the prepared saffron color to the rice.
14. As soon as sugar is added to rice, syrup starts forming. In such a situation, increase the gas flame and let the syrup dry while stirring the rice.
15. When the syrup dries, add ground cardamom, cashew nuts and almonds to it. Now remove the rice from the gas and leave it to cool.
16. After it cools down, take it out in a clean vessel and offer it to Mother Saraswati as Prasad and distribute this Prasad among everyone.
