Tamil Nadu government’s Health Minister Subramaniam said on Saturday that the ban was imposed because Rhodamine-B was found in cotton candy. Due to which the ministry has banned the sale and production of cotton candy. Cotton candy was sent to the Food Safety Department for testing. In which cancer causing Rhodamine-B chemical has been confirmed. 

Ban on sale of cotton candy under Food Safety and Standards Department 2006

The Ministry has banned the sale of cotton candy under the Food Safety and Standards Department 2006. A press release has been issued by the ministry. According to the Act, packaging, selling and serving food items containing Rhodamine-B at wedding functions and public functions is a punishable offence. Toxic chemicals have been mixed in this product. The use of Rhodamine-B in making cotton candy has been declared poisonous. 

Health expert refuses to eat which color cotton candy

The report also reveals that Rhodamine-B is also used in incense and matchsticks. This dangerous chemical is used in pink and green colored cotton candy. According to doctors, this chemical becomes the cause of cancer after entering the stomach. The Food Safety Department has given special advice to the people that they should avoid eating pink, green and purple colored cotton candy. 

What is Rhodamine-B?

Rhodamine-B is a synthetic dye commonly used in pink and red colors present in cotton candy. It is extremely poisonous. Which can cause cancer. It does not matter whether you are eating less or more of it but it can cause cancer. It is so dangerous that along with being carcinogen, it also has adverse effects on neurological. 

Symptoms visible on the body of Rhodamine-B

There is a complaint of allergy after eating cotton candy. Additionally, there is hives, swelling of face, lips, tongue, throat, swelling and difficulty in breathing. Rhodamine B is not only added to cotton candy but is also added to sweets, colorful candies, red chillies, chilli powder, curry powder, sauces and many other spices. 

Skin irritation- itching, rashes and redness

Eye irritation- redness, watering and discomfort

Vomiting

Abdominal pain, discomfort and swelling

Yellowing of the skin
