Rajendra Nagar Accident: Three students died after water entered the basement of a coaching centre in Old Rajendra Nagar area of ​​Delhi. After which swift action was taken in the case. The accused were arrested. The Home Ministry has formed an investigation committee in the case and many coaching centres including Drishti have been sealed.

1. The Home Ministry issued a statement saying, “The Home Ministry has constituted a committee to investigate the unfortunate incident that took place at a coaching center in Old Rajinder Nagar, New Delhi. The committee will investigate the causes, fix responsibility, suggest measures and recommend policy changes. The committee will have Additional Secretary, Principal Secretary (Home), Delhi Government, Special CP, Delhi Police, Fire Advisor and Joint Secretary, Home Ministry as conveners. This committee will submit its report within 30 days.”

2. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) sealed the basements of six coaching institutes in Old Rajendra Nagar and one in Mukherjee Nagar in northwest Delhi, taking the total number of basements sealed to 20. Several prominent coaching centres like Drishti (The Vision) are among the institutes facing action. On Sunday, the municipal corporation sealed 13 illegal coaching centres in the area. Rao IAS Study Circle was already sealed by the police.

3. The coaching centres against which action was taken include IAS Gurukul, Chahal Academy, Plutus IAS, Sai Trading, IAS Setu, Toppers Academy, Dainik Samvad, Civil Daily IAS, Career Power, 99 Notes, Vidya Guru, Drishti IAS Institute, Vijay Ram IAS Institute, Vijay Ram and Ravi Institute, Vijay Ram and IAS Hub and Shri Ram IAS Institute.

4. Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena on Monday announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of three civil services aspirants who died after waterlogging in the basement of a coaching centre in Old Rajendra Nagar here.

5. According to a statement issued from Raj Niwas, the Lieutenant Governor met the students protesting over the tragic incident and also assured action within 24 hours against the responsible officials of Delhi Fire Service (DFS), Police and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

6. Several students preparing for the civil services exam are protesting in Old Rajendra Nagar demanding justice for the three students (two girls and one boy) who lost their lives. Rahul Sharma, one of these students, said, “Now we should take concrete steps to prevent such an incident from happening again.” Sharma, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, is among the hundreds of students protesting near the coaching center.

7. Congress held candle marches at several places to pray for the peace of the souls of three students preparing for the civil services examination who died due to waterlogging in the basement of a coaching centre here.

8. According to a statement issued by the party, the aim of the candle marches organised in central and north Delhi besides other districts of the city was to demand justice for another student who died due to electric shock in the city’s Patel Nagar area recently.

9. Five more people have been arrested in the case, including the owner of a vehicle and four co-owners of the ‘basement’. With this, the number of people arrested in this case has increased to seven. These people were produced in a court, from where they were sent to judicial custody till August 12. Their bail plea will be heard on Tuesday (July 30).

10. An aspirant studying at a coaching centre in Mukherjee Nagar and preparing for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) civil services examination said that after Saturday’s incident, the libraries of most coaching centres have been closed.
