Dr. Ashwani Kumar Choubey, senior surgeon of Udham Singh Nagar, who has performed more than 50 thousand operations at the age of 50, is posted at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Community Health Center Kichha. Dr. Ashwani Kumar’s first joining in Uttarakhand was in Srinagar in 2003, where he was transferred to Uttarkashi in 2009 after 6 years of service.

After serving there for 9 years, in 2018 he joined CHC in Kichha of Udham Singh Nagar district. Patients from many districts of Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh come to him for treatment. At the same time, the government has honored him many times for his excellent work.

Dr. Ashwani Kumar Choubey claims that he has done more than 30,000 minor and 20,000 major operations so far. When he was posted in Kichha CHC in 2018, before that its image was made as a referral center. Kichha’s patients were forced to make rounds of big hospitals for surgery. Many times had to go to another city for treatment.

Patients come in large numbers from Srinagar, Uttarkashi, Udham Singh Nagar of Uttarakhand and Rampur, Bareilly, Moradabad of Uttar Pradesh to get treatment from Dr. Ashwani. Because of which it takes several days for the patients to get beds in the hospital.

Dr. Kumar told that when I came to Kichha for the first time in 2018, there was no good arrangement for surgery, because the surgeon was not present in the hospital for a long time. After joining, I put the problem in front of my higher officials and former MLA Rajesh Shukla, so he arranged for an immediate confrontation. After this, started doing 5 to 6 small and big operations daily. Then patients started coming from Rampur, Bareilly, Moradabad of Uttar Pradesh and Udham Singh Nagar, Srinagar and Uttarkashi of Uttarakhand for treatment at Kichha CHC. He told that I have been honored with the Certificate to Excellence Award for family planning in the National Program, Ayushman Bharat and also by the Governor.

Then the patients protested
Indramani Bhatt, the family of Sushila Bhatt, a patient who came from Uttarkashi, told that we have known Dr Saheb since he was posted in Uttarkashi. When the government had transferred him to Kichha in 2018, we protested and demanded to be sent back to Uttarkashi, but the government did not listen to our demand. He said that the surgeon takes great care of the patients and tries to provide better treatment, so we have come here to get treatment from Uttarkashi.
