When and how did the uniform change?
From 1861 to 1902, the color of the constable’s uniform was blue. At that time the uniform of the police station officer also used to be different. Then in the year 1969, shorts were removed from the khaki uniform and full pants took its place.
According to the records preserved in the Delhi Police Museum, the earliest police uniform was of the Mughal period. After this, the appearance of police uniform changed during the British rule. Then the British themselves issued the order for khaki shorts and blue shirts. Today, traffic police personnel are seen in blue pants and white shirts at every intersection of Delhi. Between 1948 and 1962, the uniform of all police personnel was completely khaki colored. At that time, police personnel used to wear loose shorts and loose shirts, long socks on their feet and caps on their heads.
