A shocking and unique case has come to light from Chandigarh. Here IAS officer Anindita Mitra has got an extension of 3 months after her farewell.
According to the report of Indian Express, the surprising thing is that this letter of extension from the Central Government came when one month had already passed in the three-month extension period.
Anindita Mitra was the commissioner of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation and her term ended on 22 August. Anindita waited for the extension order till late evening that day, but when no order was issued, she returned to Punjab.
After his retirement, the charge of Commissioner of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has been given to Deputy Commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh. The report quoted sources as saying that after waiting for a long time, Mitra took up the new posting in Punjab on Monday.
The order issued by the Centre states that the Appointment Committee of the Cabinet has approved the proposal to extend the tenure of Anindita Mitra of the Home Ministry as Municipal Corporation Commissioner. Her tenure has been extended by three months from August 22, 2024. On the other hand, after Mitra’s tenure was not extended, the panel of the Punjab government also reached Chandigarh to appoint a new commissioner.
In August, the Punjab government had sent three IAS officers Amit Kumar, Ramveer and Girish Dayalan to Chandigarh, all three were contenders for the post of Chandigarh Commissioner. On the other hand, due to the absence of a commissioner in Chandigarh for the last one month, many development works were also stuck.
On the other hand, after the order of the Central Government, the councilors of Chandigarh are also worried, because this is the first time that after the end of the tenure of an officer, he has returned to his home cadre and the Center has called him back by giving an extension.
