BageshwarBhattâs Dubke, one of the traditional dishes of Uttarakhand, is very popular among the people and tourists here. Bhattâs Dubke has made its own identity in this small village located only 10 kilometers from Bageshwar district headquarters.
Specialty of Bhattâs Dip
Bhattâs dip is specially made from black kidney beans (Bhatt) which are coarsely ground on a grinding stone and prepared with traditional spices. Bhattâs dip is cooked on a stove fire. Bhattâs dip is prepared in pure Pahadi style in the dhabas of Mankot. Not only local people but people from other districts and states also come to eat this dish.

There are about eight dhabas in this village located on the National Highway, where traditional Pahadi thali like jholi, rice, mixed and green vegetables, dal, bhang chutney, roasted chillies and salad along with Bhattâs dip is served for only Rs 100. This food is specially prepared on a fire stove, which enhances its taste even more. People coming here say that their stomach gets filled by eating Bhattâs dip, but the mind never gets tired of the taste.
This is how Bhattâs Dubke became famous
About 30 years ago, Mankot resident Ballabh Pandey opened the first shop of Bhattâs Dubke here. When his Bhattâs Dubke started selling well, other villagers also gradually started opening shops here. A time came when tourists got a taste of Bhattâs Dubke here and people started travelling several kilometres to eat Bhattâs Dubke, and since then this place became famous as Bhattâs Dubke.
This special dish of Mankot is not only unique in taste but is also playing an important role in the tourism here, where people are enjoying the food as well as experiencing the hill culture.
