Dawn News TV on Friday quoted a senior security official as saying that a survey was carried out for three years in collaboration with a friendly country to confirm the presence of oil and gas reserves. The geographical survey helped Pakistan to identify the location of the reserves. The concerned departments informed the government about the oil resources in the Pakistani maritime boundary.
The official said that drilling wells and actually extracting oil can take many years. Taking initiative in this regard and completing the work quickly can help change the country’s economic fortunes. The official said that some estimates suggest that this discovery is the fourth largest oil and gas reserve in the world.
Venezuela currently has the largest oil reserves, with more than 304 billion barrels of oil beneath the surface. The top five countries with the largest oil reserves are Saudi Arabia, Iran, Canada, and Iraq.
5 billion dollars invested in oil extraction
Speaking to Dawn News TV, Muhammad Arif, a former member of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), said that there is no guarantee that the reserves will be as large as estimated. He said that whether these reserves can meet the country’s energy demands or not depends on the size of the oil reserves. He said that drilling and extracting oil may take many years. According to the report, an investment of about $ 5 billion is needed to extract oil from this well.
