Officials said that Imran Khan had filed nominations from two constituencies to contest the elections.

71-year-old Imran Khan has been embroiled in a political and legal battle since his removal from the post of Prime Minister in April 2022. Khan has been accused of illegally selling government gifts during his tenure as PM, for which he was sentenced to three years in jail in August. Since then he has not been seen in public.

Filed nomination even after being declared ineligible

Imran Khan’s media team said that Khan was declared ineligible to contest in the general elections to be held on February 8 due to his conviction in a corruption case, but he still contested the elections on Friday (December 29). Nomination papers were filed.

Imran Khan had filed nomination from two constituencies

In the list of rejected candidates from Lahore, the Election Commission of Pakistan said that Imran Khan’s nomination was rejected because he was not a registered voter of the constituency and he has been declared guilty and disqualified by the court. Imran Khan had also filed a second nomination paper to contest elections from his hometown Mianwali, which was rejected. His media team gave this information.

Imran Khan accuses army of keeping him out of elections

Imran Khan is very popular in Pakistan. He says that he is being targeted by the army, which wants to keep him out of the elections. At the same time, the army has denied the allegation.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan had granted bail to Imran Khan on December 22 in a case related to leaking of confidential information of the country. However, a day before this (21 December) the High Court had refused to suspend his ineligibility to contest the elections.
