Pakistan Peshawar Terror Attack: A major fidayeen attack took place today in a mosque in Peshawar city, which is counted among the troubled areas of Pakistan. A suicide bomber blew himself up inside a mosque packed with worshipers during afternoon prayers here on Monday (January 30), killing 61 people and injuring around 150 others. Most of the dead were policemen.
This suicide attack was carried out by the fidayeen of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). This was revealed when a brother of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan’s deceased commander Umar Khalid made this claim. Police officials said, the attack took place inside the mosque located in the Police Lines area of Peshawar. Then there was an explosion at around 1.40 pm. At that time, the Namazis, which included police, army and bomb disposal squad personnel, were all offering Namaz there. At the same time, the attacker present in his front row blew himself up.
Most of the dead and injured are policemen
After the attack, there was hue and cry. Most of the injured were taken to the nearest hospital. Lady Reading Hospital officials told the media that 61 people have died so far. Peshawar Police has also released the list of victims. According to the list, most of the dead and injured were policemen and security officials.
Prime Minister said – nothing to do with Islam
The statement of Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahbaz Sharif has come on this attack. Prime Minister Sharif strongly condemned the attack, saying that the attackers behind the incident “have nothing to do with Islam”. “Terrorists want to create fear by targeting those who are on duty to protect Pakistan,” he said. He said that the sacrifice of the victims of the attack will not go in vain.
Shehbaz Sharif said, “Our entire country stands united against the menace of terrorism.” He also said that a comprehensive strategy would be adopted to counter the deteriorating law and order situation in the restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the government would assign various provinces their terrorism counter-measures. Army Chief Asim Munir visited Peshawar
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief General Asim Munir went to Peshawar to review the relief and rescue operations. Along with the army chief, the officers also visited Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar and inquired about the health of the injured. During this, Home Minister Rana Sanaullah and other officials were also present.
Important instructions given by calling an emergency meeting
Pak Information Minister Maryam Aurangzeb tweeted that the Prime Minister has called an emergency meeting. He said that all the institutions were directed to participate in the meeting. The reasons behind the terrorist attack in Peshawar were reviewed in the meeting. Now the investigation report will be presented.
This police officer narrowly survived the attack
Shazad Kaukab, Peshawar’s Superintendent of Police (Investigation) in Pakistan, said he had a lucky escape from the attack. He told that his office is near the same mosque where the attack took place. He told the media that the blast took place when he had entered the mosque to offer prayers.
People may still be buried under the debris
At the same time, another police officer said that a part of the mosque collapsed due to the blast and many people are feared to be buried under it. Bilal Faizi, in charge of the rescue operation, said, “We are concentrating on the rescue operation right now. Our first priority is to get people trapped under the debris to safety.” He feared that more people might be buried there.
These big offices are near the mosque
Surprisingly, the attack took place in a mosque which was close to the headquarters of Peshawar Police, Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), Frontier Reserve Police (FRP), Elite Force and Department of Telecommunications. Nevertheless, the attacker entered the highly secured mosque inside the police line, where there was a four-layer security.
The officer agreed – there was a lapse in security
Pakistan’s Dawn newspaper quoted Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Peshawar Muhammad Ijaz Khan as saying that many soldiers are still trapped in the debris and rescuers are trying to get them out. Khan said that 300 to 400 police officers were present in the area at the time of the blast. He told the media, “It is clear that there has been a lapse in security.”
Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto condemned
Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also condemned the attack, saying “terrorist incidents ahead of local and general elections are a matter of great concern”. He said that the plans of the conspirators will not be successful.
People are being appealed to donate blood
Officials of Lady Reading Hospital said that many injured have been admitted to them. Sources associated with the hospital said that the condition of 13 of the injured is critical. That is why emergency has been declared in the hospitals of Peshawar. Hospitals have appealed to citizens to donate blood for the victims.
Security increased in many cities including Islamabad
After the Peshawar blast, security has been increased in Islamabad and other major cities. In the capital Islamabad, security has been beefed up at all entry and exit points in the city and snipers have been deployed at “vital points and buildings”.
Former Prime Minister Imran Khan also condemned
former Prime Minister Imran Khan also strongly condemned the terrorist attack in the mosque. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf tweeted, “Our prayers and condolences are with the families of the victims. It is imperative that we improve our intelligence and prepare our police forces appropriately to deal with the growing threat of terrorism.” .”
At the same time, in Peshawar, Acting Chief Minister Azam Khan condemned the attack and expressed condolences to the bereaved families.
There was a big attack last year too
Last year, 63 people were killed in a similar attack inside a Shia mosque in Kocha Risaldar area of the city.
131 school children were killed in 2014
In 2014, the Pakistani Taliban stormed the Army Public School (APS) in the northwestern city of Peshawar, killing at least 150 people, including 131 students. The attack sent shockwaves across the world and was widely condemned.
TTP had ended the ceasefire
Formed in 2007 as a conglomeration of several militant outfits, the TTP broke a ceasefire with the government and ordered its militants to carry out terror attacks across the country. It is believed that this organization is close to Al-Qaeda. It has been blamed for several deadly attacks across Pakistan.
